Course packs are custom published packs compiled by your professor with materials that are relevant to the course. Course packs allow professors to include up-to-date articles and readings and are customized for each class.
Many professors use course packs as their primary texts for a course. In such cases, it is strongly recommended that you purchase your course pack as you would a textbook. Occasionally the course pack is a supplement to other course material but still very important nonetheless.
Federal copyright law and court case precedents make it very clear that no business or individual may reproduce or distribute copyrighted materials in either for-profit or non-profit entities without the permission of the copyright holder(s). In exchange for the right to reproduce copyrighted materials, most copyright holders charge a royalty fee.
As an educational publisher, University Readers negotiates with copyright holders for the lowest possible royalty fees when possible. It is our goal to keep the price of your course pack to an absolute minimum. While many copy shops choose to ignore the law and provide illegal photocopies of copyrighted material at a lower price, University Readers and your professors are dedicated to keeping the cost of your course materials as low as possible while complying with federal copyright laws.
